Last Weekend I trekked with 3 friends down to Pala Casino, an hour North of San Diego, to catch The Go-Go’s in concert. The ladies don’t make it to LA until the end of September and we just couldn’t wait that long!
I had 2nd row seats, in front of Jane & Kathy, though I moved back in forth to an empty seat in the center. Seems like the casino held back the front and center seats for casino goers who might like to take in a show. There were certainly plenty of folks in the audience who didn’t seem to know they were in for a rock show and stayed seated throughout. Despite the oddball crowd, there were plenty of us devoted fans and I ran into many familiar faces and met new ones including 2 fun girls who were visiting from Australia and were so excited to see their first Go-Go’s show. They worked their way up to the front during the show and we were singing and dancing together while they had tears in their eyes over the excitement! Belinda also called out some fans who were visiting from England.
Jane noticed me right away and said “Hi Marc!” right into her microphone while Kathy was giving me big smiles throughout the night. Belinda also took notice of me and my friend Charles right away and gave us lots of love during the set, even taking both of our hands during “Skidmarks on My Heart”.
They played a set that was pretty much similar to last Summers, and while I’d like them to switch it up a bit, I certainly didn’t leave feeling disappointed. On the way out, several people stopped me and said I looked like I was having the best time and they wanted to come dance with me next time! What can I say? I let loose at a Go-Go’s show…well, most shows! I also got a lot of compliments on the Go-Go’s t-shirt that I was wearing, a one of a kind design put together by myself and my graphic designer friend Viktor.
After the show, I sent Twitter messages to the band, thanking them for a wonderful night and immediately got messages back from Kathy and Belinda saying it was great to see me having such a good time! Way to make a guys night, ladies.
I’ve been going to see these ladies perform for over 30 years (yikes!) and as long as they keep doing it, I’ll keep going.
